I knew this was bound to be our least exciting day on the road. Today's goal was to get up and drive from the Grand Canyon towards San Antonio for as long as we could. With out a chai latte. Arizonans still don't believe in coffee, an unsettling discovery I made when I was here for Spring Training a year ago. On the bright side, we started the day off with a work out, to fight the 'car legs itch.' Then we drove by Flagstaff where our sweet friend Michelle went to college. We drove by a lot of cacti, and the temperatures rose to 82 degrees. We drove by Diablo Stadium, where Kyle trained a year ago when he was with the Angels organization. We drove through Phoenix as quietly as possible.....we're so sorry friends we just have to be there on Sunday. We drove into New Mexico and across the Continental Divide. We drove past the Oscar Myer weiner mobile, which my husband claims was easily the coolest thing we saw all day. We drove and drove. We drove into Texas. We went through Border Patrol check points. And we drove and drove on some of the straightest and most remote highways I've ever seen. 1070 miles later, we arrived in Junction, Texas for the night. Shout out to Orbitz for accommodating my random, late night hotel bookings.
What most of our drive today looked like.
Photo opp with a cactus in New Mexico, about 10 miles from the Mexican border. And yes, everyone thought my outfit was entirely unnecessary in the 80 degree heat.
My little 'half-green' car has been getting around 500 miles each fill up...or 43 miles per gallon. Much, much better than our jeep's 20 mpg last season.
